September Alopecia Month: T-Shirts and Sweaters Supporting Haarwensen vzw

Did you know that September is Alopecia Awareness Month? All around the world, awareness is raised for alopecia, a lesser-known condition that causes hair loss. For this occasion, we designed a sweater and a T-shirt that give a positive nod to baldness caused by alopecia. For the photo campaign, we asked our customer Tine to step in front of the camera – she has lived with alopecia since the age of five. All proceeds from this campaign were donated entirely to Haarwensen vzw, a Belgian non-profit association.

Breaking the taboo around baldness and hair loss

A bald head often makes people think of cancer. But few know that alopecia also exists, a condition that can cause partial or total hair loss, either temporary or permanent. At Rosette la Vedette, we know this all too well. Our collection of hats and scarves is not only worn by chemo patients but increasingly also by women with alopecia.

Wendy, owner and designer of Rosette la Vedette: “The taboo around alopecia sometimes seems even greater than the taboo around cancer. With my collection of hats and scarves, I want to encourage people not to feel ashamed or hide away. That’s why I wanted to design something extra for September Alopecia Month to highlight alopecia in a lighthearted way. The result was a sweater with the print 0% hair 100% awesome and a T-shirt with the quote I’m having a no hair day. Two fun statements to spark warm conversations about alopecia.

Tine, featured model with alopecia

Customer Tine proudly posed for Rosette la Vedette wearing the sweater and T-shirt. Tine: “I was five years old when I first lost my hair. Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I had bald patches due to alopecia areata, until all of my hair fell out completely around the age of 30. For a young woman, that’s hard to accept, because baldness impacts your self-image and your confidence. Today I dare to show my alopecia to the world, and I want to help inform and inspire others going through the same. If we want less taboo and more understanding, we have to talk about it more openly. The sweater and T-shirt by Rosette la Vedette are the perfect conversation starters.”

All proceeds to Haarwensen vzw

The proceeds from this special September campaign were donated entirely to Haarwensen vzw, a Belgian non-profit that provides children with hair loss due to alopecia, chemotherapy or other medical conditions with a real-hair wig free of charge – wigs that would otherwise cost up to €1,500.

This campaign has now ended, and all items are sold out, so they are no longer available in our webshop.
