Let’s be honest: we have yet to meet a woman who enjoys losing her hair on top of all the other discomforts of chemotherapy. Hair loss affects how you see yourself — and it makes your illness more visible to the outside world. No wonder you sometimes feel completely fed up with it all.
But it can help to look at things from a gentler, more positive angle. Our designer Wendy looked back at her own “bald head” memories and made a playful list of five unexpected upsides to being bald. Because sometimes a little humor helps, right?
1. No “Bad Hair Days” for a While
We all know those days when you wake up and your hair decides to go every direction except the one you’d hoped for. Without hair, you get a break from those “bad hair days.” No more frustration over that unruly curl, that grown-out perm, or that stubborn spiky bit. Let everyone else complain about their hair struggles — you, at least for now, can rise above it. And with a colorful chemo hat or headscarf, you’ll shine every single day.
It’s okay to do it your way.
2. More Time for Other Little Luxuries
Washing, blow-drying, styling… getting your hair to behave can be surprisingly time-consuming. With a bald head, you suddenly gain a good fifteen minutes every morning. Fifteen extra minutes to treat your legs to a silky body lotion, brighten your face with a hydrating mask, or finally give your hands & feet the attention they rarely get. Try to focus less on what you’ve lost (your hair) and more on what you’ve gained (time for other pampering moments!).

3. No More Lost Hours at the Hairdresser
Let’s be honest — not everyone is a fan of the hairdresser. The long waiting, the noise of roaring blow-dryers, the small talk you’re not always in the mood for… Six to eight months of baldness means at least six missed hair appointments. That’s hours saved — not to mention the money. Money you can now spend on an extra chemo hat or pretty scarf, for example.
4. Getting Creative With Your Other Best Features
Many women discover hidden strengths during their “hairless chapter.” We often heard: “Wow, your blue eyes are stunning — we never noticed them like this before!” Others rediscover their freckles, or realize they actually have a beautiful mouth, lovely teeth, or charming ears. Why not?
Play a little with makeup to highlight your other features. Why not wear a bold lipstick now and then? Or accentuate your eyes? (Tip: eyeshadow gives a softer look than hard eyeliner lines when your eyelashes fall out.)

5. The Perfect Excuse to Invest in Beautiful Accessories
Dressing up instantly lifts your spirits. As the French say: “soigner son look, c’est bon pour le moral!” Dare to experiment with accessories — scarves, brooches, necklaces, earrings… They complete your look and transform your chemo hat or scarf into a stylish accessory that will earn you plenty of compliments.
